APSAVD Email – December 2011
My first year as APSAVD President has passed very quickly. My thanks to the Executive for their support – in particular to Professor Brian Tomlinson for arranging an Executive Meeting and APSAVD Annual General Meeting during the East Meets West Meeting held in Hong Kong in early October.
Dr Maria Teresa Abola and Professor Rody Sy are also to be congratulated for organising an excellent symposium on Peripheral Arterial Disease, which was held on May 24 in Manila, Phillipines. This meeting was so informative we are co-hosting a similar symposium at the IAS Symposium to be held in Sydney in March 2012. Professor Jeong Euy Park has generously agreed to chair our new Scientific Committee, and is working with Dr Abola to develop the proram for this Symposium and also a special Symposium on Asian Pacific Guidelines. These are two excellent opportunities to showcase our regional clinicians and researchers, and I urge you all to attend and participate.
Of course, our own APSAVD Congress will run in October – under the direction of Professor Apichati Vichayanrat, Chair of the Organizing Committee. I do hope you are planning to joins us in Phuket.
This grant of $5,000-$8,000 will provide a wonderful opportunity for a young scientist to gain experience and knowledge in the field of atherosclerosis which then can be transferred to his or her home laboratory, hospital, and country, thus benefitting many people beyond just the young scientist.
Please encourage APSAVD members to seek out the best and the brightest of your young scientists to apply for this Fellowship (http://www.athero.org/ias-fellow.asp). You will have to log in to the IAS site – it’s free and anyone can do so. Applicants must be members of an IAS consituent society (such as APSAVD).
May I take this opportunity to wish you season’s greetings, and the very best for 2012.
Philip Yu-An Ding, ASPAVD President
